Mebane Business Association

Mebane Arts & Community Center

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Donna Tilley, president, opened the meeting with people introducing themselves. Chip Findley with Zbowl was introduced as a new member and Tom Manning, candidate for Alamance County Commissioner was a guest. She thanked Monica Robinson with CenturyLink for today’s refreshments.

A copy of last month’s minutes is included with today’s agenda.

David Hawks, treasurer, reported $22,557 in checking and $31,188 in money market account for a total of $52,851. We received $18,500 in sponsorship money for this year’s Dogwood Festival.

Old Business

The MBA made a $250 donation to the Mebane Acting Company in March.
Meeting Highlight

President Tilley introduced Laura Atwell, Vice President of Marketing for Tanger Outlets. Laura said she has been with Tanger Outlets for 19 years. She said the Mebane Outlet is on schedule and should be ready to open in November. Tanger is a conservative company and likes to be 100% leased. The company started in 1981 as the original Burlington Manufacturers’ Outlet Mall. The Mebane outlet is #31 in the Tanger portfolio. Tanger, with corporate headquarters in Greensboro, has more than 450 employees across the country. The company is very community oriented and sponsors car shows and a 5K walk each year. Kids and Cancer are the two areas of giving for Tanger. The local outlet complex will feature the Main Street look and feel. They will offer a signage package for outside companies. Billboards are already in place and at tanger.com you will find a list of businesses at this location. Tanger does three direct mail pieces each year – Spring, Back to School and Holidays. They offer a Tanger Club Card that gives customers a book of coupons and a $10 gift card on your birthday. Laura gave out several prizes as she ended her presentation.

New Business

    * Dogwood Festival Update: Vice President Monica Robinson recognized all Dogwood sponsors present. Reggie Lipscomb, car show chairman, said he needed prizes for goodie bags for the car show participants. David Wyatt said he expects 132 golfers and could use more hole sponsors.

    * MBA Directors/Board Elections:

      President Tilley announced that our new officers and board members would be elected at the June

      meeting. She asked that any nominations be emailed to her.

    * Bylaws Addition: We need to add an item to our current bylaws that says the board of directors can approve expenditures up to $500 without prior approval of the general membership. This will be presented for a vote at the May general meeting.

Upcoming Meetings

    * Dogwood Festival Meeting:  April 7, 10 a.m. – MACC
* MBA Board meeting:  April 21, 9 a.m. – MACC
* MBA General: May 5, 8:45 a.m. – MACC
* City Council Meeting:  May 3, 6 p.m. – Municipal Building

Respectfully submitted,

Jackie Brown, secretary
