Martinhoʼs Event Center
Tara Corbett, President, opened the meeting with each person and guests introducing
themselves. She thanked Betty Matekovich with Phil Crisp Nationwide Insurance for
todayʼs refreshments.
A copy of last monthʼs minutes was included with todayʼs agenda.
David Hawks, Treasurer, reported $3,773.29 in the checking account and $30,973.78 in
money market account.
Old Business – Dogwood Festival update
∑ Sponsorship is going well, we are still waiting to hear back from several businesses.
∑ 5K Race – is USATF certified
∑ Advertising is underway – need sponsor logos
∑ Golf tournament – need $100 hole sponsors
∑ Joy Albright sent around a sign up sheet to man MBA tent
∑ Trash pick up has been arranged through the city for $200
60 Second business happenings – Larry Allen with Loaves & Fishes said their business
Is open for clients Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 until 11:30 a.m. Office is
open Mon. – Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Meeting Highlight – Heidi Norwick, Director of the Womenʼs Resource Center, discussed
WRCʼs role in our community. Their main focus is to help displaced homemakers get on
their feet. They also work to change public policy. Throughout the year they sponsor
the Working Womenʼs Wednesday programs and also the annual Herb Festival each
spring.
New Business – MBA did purchase the stage discussed at the February meeting. The
motion was made and seconded that the MBA pay for a band in October to extend Clay
Street After Work one more month. Joy Albright will get a band to perform in October.
It was pointed out that MBA members may reserve space at the Dogwood Festival for
1/2 price. It was emphasized that the MBA member must use the space for their own
need.
Tommy Privette reported that sales for the Mebane map are going well.
Josh Crawford with I Hate the Gym is having a 24-hour exercise program starting Friday
night and ending late afternoon on Saturday.
