The Mebane Business Association (MBA) has been the leading advocate for businesses of all sizes in our community for over 25 years. Our association is a non-profit membership business organization and is governed by a volunteer board of directors whose leadership changes annually. The MBA is provides the best way for you to learn about your community, ultimately increasing your business potential. Members also find that participation is a source of pride and civic responsibility. The goal of the MBA is to provide support, structure and a unified voice for area businesses, with a focus on making a positive contribution to the local community.

Donna Tilley, president, welcomed everyone and thanked Shannon with Scott Sand & Stone for today’s refreshments and door prizes.
All members and guests introduced themselves.
The minutes were approved as presented.
David Hawks, treasurer, reported $17,199.45 in checking and $31,154.79 in the money market account. The budget for 2009 – 2010 was presented. Donna pointed out that our mission is to give back to the community and we are allocating $10,000 to be used as needed for our schools. On a motion by Jill Auditori and second by David Wyatt, the budget was approved. David Hawks said the books were available at any time if anyone wanted to see them.
Old Business:
Donna thanks everyone who helped with Clay Street After Work in August. On September 18, Rough Cut, a bluegrass band, will perform. Volunteers will be needed to set up and tear down the stage.
The $2,000 Alamance Community College scholarship was approved.
60-Second Business Happening
Dr. Lane Anderson announced that he had recently published a book, Care Enough to Discipline. The book can be purchased directly from the publisher, www.IvyHouseBooks.
Meeting Highlight:
Jackie Cole, a representative from the Woodlawn Community Board, told the group a little history of the Historic Woodlawn School, located on Mebane Rogers Road. The school was established in the early 1900’s with 37 original students. In 1936, the school closed but the building was sold back to the community. In 1991 the school was listed on the National Historic Registry. The school has been restored, with new heating & AC, kitchen facilities and has a 99-person capacity. Future upgrades will include improved lighting and a sound system. The school is available for rental and Jackie encouraged the group to take advantage of the opportunity to rent the building for a very small fee.
The new e-mail policy was presented. A copy will be e-mailed to all members. If members want to send an e-mail to members, it should be sent to secretary, Jackie Brown for distribution.
Lisa Pennington presented the change in the Bylaws, Article IX, Amendments. A copy of the change is attached. On a motion by Jill Auditori, with second by Reggie Lipscomb, the Bylaws change was approved as presented.
Donna asked for volunteers to serve on an Events Committee to meet on Friday, September 11, 9 a.m. at Keller Williams conference room. The committee will help plan a membership drive and a community event.
No Meet and Greet Events are currently scheduled.

Donna Tilley, president, opened the meeting and everyone introduced themselves. Dr. Lane Anderson introduced Jason Cheek, new manager at Fidelity Bank. Donna thanked Signature Flooring for today refreshments.
Minutes were approved as presented.
David Hawks, treasurer, reported that as of this date we have 47 paid members for the new year. We have $16,654 in the checking account and $31,139 in the money market account for a total of $47,793.
Old Business
Reggie Lipscomb asked about whether we were giving the ACC scholarship this year. A decision will be made at a later date.
Meeting Highlight
Heather Jordan, with United Way, talked about the new Habitat for Humanity house that will be built in Graham. To date three houses have been built in our county. The house is built in 10 days. Heather asked that the MBA participate on Tuesday, August 25. The event kicks off on August 24 and will be finished on September 4. There will be a ribbon cutting at the new house, located on Lot 33, Ben Court in Graham, on September 10.
She also announced that Make a Difference Day is October 24 and she urged the group to think of ways to give back to the community.
New Business
All MBA members were asked to invite someone to come to next month’s meeting. We will be having a membership event in the fall.
Donna passed around a sign up sheet for people to help with setting up and tearing down for Clay Street After Work on August 21st. Several strong men are needed.
The new Cancer Center at Alamance Regional Mebane campus will have their ribbon cutting on Tuesday, September 1, time tba.
Our Christmas luncheon will be held on Wednesday, December 2, at the Mebane Arts & community center.
Donna asked for volunteers to sign up to be on the budget committee. The new budget will be presented at the next general meeting.

Tara Corbett, president, opened the meeting with all members and guests introducing themselves. She thanked Alexis Drago with The Mebane Acting Company for today’s refreshments.
Andy Wiggs said he was leaving Randolph Bank and had accepted a position with Lab Corp in Burlington. He introduced Adrienne Huffman who will be the new branch manager in Mebane.
The minutes were approved as presented.
David Hawks, treasurer, said we had a profit from 2009 Dogwood Festival of $17,316.00 compared to $13,997.00 for 2008.
Meeting Highlight – Bret Moran with Alamance Regional introduced the following ARMC personnel: Bob Byrd, Cindy Johnson, Lisa Pennington and Jamie Athas. Bret gave a brief overview of ARMC Mebane location. Cindy Johnson gave an update of the new cancer center that opens in September. The cancer center will occupy 8,500 sq. ft., including space for 12 treatment chairs with 5 oncologists on staff. An open house is planned for September.
New Business/New MBA officers – A slate of officers was presented for 2009/2010 and the floor was open for additional nominations. There were no additional nominations. Ballots were completed and counted and the following officers were elected: President, Donna Tilley; Vice President, Monica Robinson; Secretary, Jackie Brown; and Treasurer, David Hawks. Elected as board members were: Joy Albright, Trent Riley, Lisa Pennington, David Wyatt and Tara Corbett.
Dr. Lane Anderson said that changes to the by-laws could be made at any time by the general membership. The by-laws are available on the MBA website.
Reggie Lipscomb introduced Carolyn Rhode with the ACC Foundation. Carolyn said that currently ACC has 5,000 curriculum students. Enrollment is up for the year and should increase even more for the fall semester. Carolyn then introduced Abby Burgess who is the first recipient of the MBA scholarship. Abby said she was excited to receive the scholarship and will later transfer to UNC-G to finish her education.

Tara Corbett, president opened the meeting with all members and guests introducing themselves. Tara thanked Randy and Dana Ballard with Eastern Imprints for today’s refreshments.
The minutes were accepted as printed.
David Hawks, treasurer, gave a recap of expenses/profit from the Dogwood Festival. We made a profit of $17,723.48, which is $13,000 more than 2008. All profits from the Golf Tournament will be donated to Loaves and Fishes. This amount will be determined once all monies are received.
Derek Sneed, with the United Way of Alamance County gave an overview of the local needs of the county and how the United Way goes about determining those needs. They (United Way) do a community assessment every 4 years. From the assessment they determine the needs, educate the community about the needs and raise money to serve those needs.. The money raised through the United Way goes back to our community. Tara thanked Derek and Heather Jordan for the presentation.
Tara Corbett said next month we will elect new officers and she opened the floor for nominations. Joy Albright nominated David Hawks to continue as treasurer. Tara Corbett nominated Donna Tilley as president. Monica Robinson was nominated as vice president. Those nominated as possible board members included:
Tammy Mason, Lisa Pennington, Joy Albright, Jill Auditori, and Elma Doermann. Tammy Mason declined the nomination. Any other nominations may be emailed to the MBA. Officers will be elected at the June 3 meeting.
